grape culture
This show isn’t about tragic experiences that happen to a few people, it’s a conversation exploring the ubiquitous nature of "grape" culture – an ethos whose tentacles touches us all. So many people assume that this is an issue that doesn’t impact them directly, but this show reveals how every human is deeply impacted by the "grapey" consciousness that society is built upon. We are not interested in blaming men, or blaming anyone for this paradigm - but rather unmasking the power dynamics that allow "grape" culture to thrive.
When we refuse to talk about "grape" directly, we collectively make "grape" a secret that the victim has the burden of carrying. Yet the perpetrators also carry a burden - they too cannot openly talk about what has transpired. They too have to hold in the violence in their bodies. We keep sweeping the conversation of "grape" under rugs, or hoping a high-profile arrest of a celebrity will make a difference. Yet In order to fully heal together, we have to talk about "grape" culture together – from all points of view. This show looks at how we all perpetuate "grape" culture, and how we all need to come together to heal it. Pun intended!
The show begins with a big picture look at how "grape" culture has framed society. We examine how the pretense of power and illusion of control infects the systems of society and poisons the body of our collective. Toni and Sarah re-enact their personal traumas by playing each other’s perpetrators and re-living these moments of innocence annihilated. They alchemize their stories through the magic of artistic play. Toni and Sarah confront that healing is not linear, and even when you engage with “safe spaces” you will often be met with distrust, gaslighting and victim blaming. Despite the evidence, Toni and Sarah are still convinced that healing can occur and are willing to swim through messy waters to reach an oasis of a new paradigm.
Toni and Sarah are offering an unashamed, raw, conversation that invites all genders into the knowing that feminism is for everybody. We all suffer from the hands of "grape" culture choking us.
