gloaming, nowhere

Gloaming, Nowhere is a neo-Appalachian patchwork kolaidoscopic collage, blending the old and the new, brimming with a sense of mystic adventure. Writer and Performer J.S. Streible inhabits the enigmatic “Storyteller,” who welcomes us to Nowhere. Upon our arrival, he redefines the possibilities of a one-person musical integrating multiple characters, poetry, lyrical dialogue, and southern pop songs played on various instruments. An indelible experience.

The creation of the musical itself is unconventional. Best described as a “Revusical,” J.S. brought together previously unrelated works of poetry, microfiction and song to form a fantastical narrative. Originally a self-taught singer-songwriter and musician, J.S., along with songs in tow, spent the better part of a decade entertaining audiences from streets to stages all across the country. The storytelling devices are informed by centuries of oral tradition from Appalachian Yarn-spinners to English Minstrels to West African Griots. The presentation is heavily inspired by Boston’s Brother Blue. “Big Fish,” Beckett, Brothers Grimm. See y’all soon!

Run time: 85 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission

Age recommendation: 13+ (mild offensive language, smoking, mild sexual references, gothic spiritual themes)
